Chillicothe Medical Malpractice in the News

A few stories featured in the local media lately serve to emphasize the importance of being diligent with your medical care. We have many health care facilities in Chillicothe Ohio, and have nothing but respect for our heroic health care workers, but sometimes errors are made, which can be catastrophic for the recipients of said care. Here are a few examples, these all originating from Adena Regional Medical Center, 272 Hospital Road, Chillicothe, Ohio:

Two Cardiac Surgeons Fired: A news article in the Scioto Valley Guardian about Adena Health System suspending cardiac surgery and firing two cardiac surgeons. It discusses two patient families who came forward with stories of surgical errors. The article also details social media posts made by Adena’s Director of Medical Staff Services, Missy Janey Brenner, defending the hospital. However, NBC4’s investigation confirms the Guardian’s reporting and Brenner has since deleted her social media posts. this means at the time of this publishing, Adena is no longer offering cardiac surgery until this ordeal is sorted out.

Woman Propped up to Look Alive: Again from the Cardiology Department… Yikes! Adena Health System is facing scrutiny after a 65-year-old woman died during a routine heart catheterization. The woman’s family is alleging that she was propped up to look alive for them after she had already been declared dead. Medical records show that the woman was pronounced dead at 2:22 p.m., but her family was not informed of her death until 4:30 p.m. When they arrived at the hospital, they found the woman sitting up in bed and breathing with the help of a ventilator. The family is also alleging that the woman was given medication to make her appear more alert. Adena Health System has denied the allegations, but the incident has raised questions about the hospital’s practices.

Nurse Reports Opioid Theft, Gets Fired: A nurse at Adena Health System was fired after reporting a colleague for stealing fentanyl. The nurse, Dustin Eing, filed a lawsuit against his former employer claiming wrongful termination. Eing alleges that he was fired in retaliation for reporting the theft. He is seeking relief under Ohio Revised Code §4113.52, which protects whistleblowers from retaliation. Adena Health System has not yet released a statement regarding the lawsuit.

Obviously this has not been a good run for the Adena Health System, which is quite concerning, as its one of the most relied upon facilities to obtain modern medical care in the Southern Ohio region.
